    Canvas printing

Does anyone know of a good printer that will print onto canvas? would the printer have to use a certain type of ink? I've seen a website that sells rolls of canvas up to 60'x40' but is there a printer that can print either 60" wide or 40" wide? or am i having to use a specialist printer company?

    Hi Rod,

I use an Epson StylusPro 7800 to print on canvas all the time, up to 24 inches wide, by "as long as you like) - it uses 8 pigment-based ink cartridges. Off memory the 7800 was replaced by the 7880 - they also have models that will take 44 inch wide media, and one larger again (60 inch off memory).

Not cheap though, so it's not something you'd want for just occasional home printing.

Saw some of those big ones at PMA Sydney last year, as the bloke on the stand said with a laugh, "Unless you need one, don't ask the price. I doubt a man of your age could stand the shock".

I paid $10k in NZD for my 7800, but that included a complete set of carts, canvas, paper, delivery, and tax. Basic printer was NZD $6K. It's been good though - no real issues with it, and it's paid for itself several times over

It gets worse ... you then have to spray the canvas with a UV protectant and also make wooden frames and stretch the canvas over it, which will involve ...

    - Thicknesser

    - Mitre saw

    - Drill Press

    - Battery Drill

    - Drill Bits

    - Sander

    - Laminate Trimmer / router

    - Air staple gun

    - Compressor

    - HVLP spray gun

    Very rewarding though
