Probably a fill frame abstract would do better?

    Brian,

Compositionally centring of the main subject is 'generally' not done. Look up the 'rule of thirds' for information on this.

Okay...Did you actually look at this shot when you posted it?

I ask because first off the time stamp is, very obviously.. still there.

You need to slow down , listen to the good advice you are being given here..look at other peoples work and stop going for instant fixes and posting them asking if this is better..or this..or this..

Good photography takes time..it takes study and observation. You are not born a photographer,..you grow as one.

It takes years...it takes a lifetime.

There are no shortcuts so if you don't have the patience to look, to listen and to learn then maybe this isn't right for you and you should direct your energies elsewhere.

If you choose to put in the time....you will get so much wonderful help and advice here.

Sorry but you wanted blunt. :/

As Sharon said you want bluntness cc.

What is it in the first place, a piece of tissue which you have scrupled up and then got to near with your camera to take the image. First and foremost when you set a image up think about the person/s who may look at your image and wonder what the hell is that. In this case I think it's a flower you want people to see the beauty of it.

Brian just look at your image from our point of view on the other side of the computer monitor, you know what it is but think from our perspective. It is not separated, it isn't a stand alone flower that we can see, if you can get the flower head, and this is how I do it, separated from the main bunch of flowers or use a shallow dof to get the rest blurred.

Photography can be daunting to people but if you read books and read what is on this site as tips you won't go far wrong.

    Dave.

Brian, in photography pressing the shutter release button to take a shot is in most cases the tip of the iceberg.

actually that was an older photo but you won't be seeing the time stamp on the newer ones. And yes i did look at it. but my eyes do not always see what is there. One of the reasons i quit driving. Sorry if I seem in a rush to you but as I am into my 60's a life time of learning is not really an option.

I am approaching 82 in a couple of months and I started this digital business when I was about 70 and after a lifetime in photography.cinematography and related work feel I started to learn about photography with digital ....
So basically you have the rest of your life which maybe next week or in forty years time we never know.

I remember somebody talking about another interest/hobby I enjoy ... it is a pastime ... something to pass the time doing when not slaving at work Not that I slaved most of the time becuase I have been lucky in always enjoying my work and it was never slavery for me.

As far as this photo I see it as a type of white flower with the yellow centre at edge of frame ... it could have the top cropped off to be an abstract as people call them of just pure white but for that there is a central area with no texture as elsewhere suggestin over exposure as camera adjusted for dark background which I assume you cropped off before posting ... but I could be wrong with that.
