    By the way, several of us rescuers in this area have split off from the American Maltese Association Rescue due to procedural difficulties (boy, that's a euphemism if there ever was one!). We have applied for a 501(c)3 Federal Tax Status as MALTESE RESCUE CALIFORNIA...

    1. Because people don't spay and neuter their animals
    2. Because people get animals on a whim without enough thought about how the animal will alter their lives
    3. Because many families have lost their homes due to the economy
    4. Because people don't make the effort to train their dogs. The cute puppy grows up to be a big dog with bad behaviors
    5. Because some people consider a dog as a disposable item like a toy, to be discarded when one is tired of it
    6. Because some people just don't care

    There are probably other reasons but, I thnk that I touched on the major ones....
