This is SOOC, and I am really proud of it! This was yesterday, very cloudy and I guess the sky helped with my exposure.

I didn't even crop it, so I could say this is mine
Ok, besides cropping, what would I do to it if I had any editi g software?

Thanks, all, you have helped me tremendously.
    Nancy

I read the post how to get my photos here, but don't see them??

Nancy: please reread post on how to post images on Cambridge in Colour, I would suggest that you do not have us go through or into Flickr to find them.

    Cheers:

Seeing it larger helps see the clarity I have been aiming for all year! Although, it doesn't look nearly as clear posted on the site, but I am excited at what is on my IPad!!
    Thanks, Nancy

Although a bit small to view.. They all look like beautiful image.. Great focus, exposure, colour and beautiful detail on that heron in flight... The birds in the tree look beautiful too...

    Thank you Christina!
You have been a 'leader' to me in your progression. You have posted often with great questions, and I have followed you/ your expertise coming thru, thank you!
On my IPad, these are incredibly sharp, and hopefully can replicate them without taking another 1, 000 before I get a great 1. But I think, like you, that I have found another level and will keep rising.

Nancy, these are just wonderful images. The only downside I can see is that they are really small...I would love to view them at a larger size if possible.

And I agree with Terry, Keep 'em coming!

    Hi Nancy

I think you've done very well with these shots but I think you are not letting people see the images at their best. I'm sure they look much better on your IPad !

The problem is that you've posted images that are too small to see the quality properly. Not only that, there is a lot of quality and resolution lost in the downsizing ( to about 500 pixels wide) done in Flickr. Also, as you suggest, some editing will really bring out the best in these shots.

I had a quick look in your Flickr account and picked one of these images (#3). I downloaded the full size image (4928 x 3264 pixels) and did a very quick edit in Adobe Camera Raw (similar to Lightroom). The image SOOC has a limited tonal range so I increased this at both the black and white ends, added some Clarity and Vibrance and increased the saturation, cropped it a bit, then re-sized the image to 1500 pixels wide and added some sharpening. Here is the result. I'm sure there would be others here who could do much more with it.

If you would rather I didn't post this re-work, let me know and I'll remove it. But it just seemed a shame to me that your images weren't presented in such a way to fully show their inherent quality.

I particularly like the third shot. Nice clear shot of the bird, great reflections on the water and a mass of free space. Dark and moody feel to the image with the dynamics of the bird in flight. Cropping some of the space to the right might help.

Always remember, Nancy, that pressing the shutter is the end of the first part of making a picture. The second part starts when you get it onto your computer and carry out post processing.

So, processing, including cropping and the sort of work that Dave did, is not making it 'not your image'. In fact, it's adding your personal creative and skilful stamp onto it.

And I agree with the others, these images prove that you are more than ready to be posting images up for public viewing in a place like this.

Nancy, you might like to see how you can change the image, just by using the simple controls that you are likely to find in any free photo editor downloaded from the web but, obviously, it must be your choice as to whether this has improved the photo. This is a crop from your third heron shot, with increased brightness, contrast, and some sharpening:

It is always nice to hear that my questions and posts have been helpful to others. Thank you for sharing that... I too, think you have reached another level as these BIF images are incredibly sharp and beautifully focused. BIF are always challenging but photographing them does gets easier with continued practice.

Also I would like to say that I have learned a lot by posting photos that didn't work out well because of all the great advice that I received on how to do it better next time around.
