Canon 600D/Rebel T3i product Serial key.

    Hi All,

I have purchased a new Canon 600d 3 days back from an official retailer in India,
I got it for very reasonable price almost saved 5000Rs (80$USD). The shop dealer did not provide me invoice copy for the purchase and told not to worry about anything and has given me local guarantee.

The problem is that I suspecting if this is a genuine Canon Product I have also checked the product it looks good and there are no defects nor any variations from the original product.

I am getting scared to register serial number with official canon pro service centre since if this is a counterfeit/Fake product I would not get any service or warranty for the product.

Could someone please let me know or any ways how can we check the SERIAL KEYS are genuine or not??

I don't know of a way to check a serial without contacting Canon. However, if you got that good a price on nothing but a verbal guarantee, you're probably right to worry. It's possible that the camera is genuine (I've never heard of convincing knock-offs), but has some kind of damage. If so, it can probably be repaired, but it's impossible to know how much that'd cost without knowing of any trouble. Has the camera done anything unusual? Poor focusing, strange marks on your images, high noise, very short battery life, etc.?

I don't know how things work in India but, here in the USA, a Canon owner must have an invoice from an "Authorized Canon Reseller" to have the camera serviced by Canon USA during it's one year of warranty. Without that invoice, Canon USA Service Centers will not perform warranty work on the camera. The warranty card included with each camera is useless for warranty work.

I sincerely doubt that the camera is counterfeit. I have heard of counterfeit memory cards or filters, but not entire cameras. More likely, it is what is called in the USA a "Grey Market" camera. That is; a camera imported into the USA legally but not imported through Canon USA.

Thanks for the reply...I checked the camera and do not see any such unusual things..

I believe this is a "Grey market" imported camera.....

The same mechanism works in India owner must have an invoice from an "Authorized Canon seller" to have the camera serviced by Canon.

I completely agree with You there are lot of counterfeit filters and Memory cards which are running in online stores and in market as well...Its really very difficult to identify/Distinguish with the genuine products in India.
