Ahaetulla is a genus of colubrid snakes commonly referred to as vine snakes, or whip snakes. They are mildly venomous and what is commonly termed as 'rear-fanged' or more appropriately, opisthoglyphous, meaning their enlarged teeth or fangs, intended to aid in venom delivery, are located in the back of the upper jaw, instead of in the front as they are in vipers or cobras.

Yes! It was Ken as close as I think less than 30 cm from the subject. I was using 100mm f/2.8L IS macro lens on 7D 1.6 crop also some shots with 300mm f/4L attached with extention tube on FF 5D Mark II. Thanks for viewing and your feedback.

Very sharp and well exposed/processed. Can't really comment further knowing nothing about what is considered good/bad in a reptile photo Thanks for sharing the images and info.

They are the sort of photographs we would all love to get. I prefer the first as the highlights are not as strong. The crop/framing would I imagine be a difficult decision but it works well for both photographs.

Great shots Walad. I take it the snake was not venomous or were you just relying on the fact that it was otherwise engaged.

Wow! Great shots Walad; both compositionally and from an interest standpoint. The snake must have been more interested in lunch and did not see you as a threat. I had a similar shooting situation last summer where I saw a water snake trying to eat a fish, but it was far less trusting of me and kept moving out of range when I tried to shoot, so my images are not nearly as effective as these.

    Really, really well done!
