Cute bird without a tail - series of photos (kinda bad quality)

I'll start right off by saying that these are poor quality photos which I normally would not share. They were underexposed and not all were sharp. Add to that the fact they are cropped very heavily, and you have junk shots. HOWEVER, I found the bird so cute and delightful that I simply had to share the series with you.

I was laying on my stomach (as many of you know I do alot for wildlife) and this sparrow showed up, unfortunately too far away for any keepers. Anyway, what the bird lacks in the form of a tail, it makes up for in character! Hope it makes you smile like it did to me

Is the bird able to fly?

I believe it was flying, yes. Perhaps not as well as its friends, but it was making do.

I have a blackbird in my garden with a similar problem; probably from an encounter with a cat.

It is a bit unsteady in flight and somewhat ungainly when landing at times. But is surviving OK. At least on my bird table!

Nice series of a cute little bird. I've seen several youngsters hopping around in the past few weeks. As a retired pilot, I find it humorous to watch these "student pilots" try to land on the pegs of the bird feeders. It reminds me of some of my landings! Your subject resembles a house finch with that breast coloration but its hard to tell at this age.
