    Common Blue

    Not many of these around this year - oh and this has been cropped.

    Nikon D 7000
    100mm Tokina Macro
    1/800th sec @ f8 ISO 200
    - 0.33 Compensation.

    Yes a poor year for many species, John. I've only seen a couple and haven't taken a decent photo yet. Same goes for the Holly Blue.

    You have managed your exposure on the yellow very well. It may be a common flower, but I always struggle to photograph them.

    Thanks Geoff. I have found with the Nikon cameras I have owned that in contrasty conditions, dialling in some negative compensation helps. It's a Nikon thing I think. This may have helped here.

    It occurs with most cameras, I frequently shoot insects with around -1 exposure compensation. The skill is knowing when and how much compensation to apply.
