I think the first one in this series is exceptional. I like his stance and the clean background.

All great shots. Cannot pick a favourite as each has something going for it. Nicely done again.

Nice series. Probably the last one for me I terms of preference. Shows off the majesty of what seems a relatively compact bird when it's on the ground.

    Hi Otavio,

I see you have the 'unfortunate' bokeh problem (at f/8) in #2 and #3, I get that too
I assume that is the Nikon 70-300mm?

I shoot that lens at f/11 whenever I can these days, it helps a bit I find, I have to be desperate - and with a dim background to use it at f/5.6 when the double edges on straight, bright objects behind the subject is even worse.

I guess you have your reasons for the framing in #2 - ideally I'd place the subject further right in the frame, so it has less space behind its back.

    Good though,

Hi, Dave. The lens I used for these shots was a Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro. Thanks for your feedback.

Note: By mentioning "Bokeh problems on #2 and #3" do you mean the too much blurred backgroound, causing double edges on the grass blades? Or maybe I misunderstood it...If yes, well, that is really a problem sometimes. I will consider your tip of using F11 on these sorts of background. Thanks for that!

#1 is my favorite, I find the grass too busy in the others, you could darken and blur it some in software, but # 1 is an amazing shot!! I have trouble finding this bird, lucky you!

    Doh!

I should have read your signature line

No, I mean the 'double edges' towards the distance; i.e. top of frame in your shots.

I bright point source of light/bright object, that is out of focus on a lens with 'harsh bokeh', will resolve to a circle with a bright edge, like this.
A straight, bright object will give a double edge - I just spent 10 mins looking for a couple of images to really show what I mean, but failed - I tend not to post them.

If I find them, I'll add links to them.

Ok, it is clear to me now, Dave! And it is good to know that you found out that F/11 can give a bit better result! Thanks...

I usually don't like bird images in which the bird is flying away from the camera but, the last image is interesting! The previous images are super! I'd love to visit Brazil someday.
