    Square Framed Photo

What is the standard printing format? Do you:
    1. Fill the frame and trim to a square.
    2. Leave space around border and center on a 4"x6" or 8x10" sheet.
    3. Align with top edge and leave room for text on side or bottom.

    Thanks

Don't know what is 'standard', but I leave a 1/2" edge around my prints. This allows me to use the archival mounting strips (and room to sign my print), when I frame it. ( A matting would be needed to frame it this way) So if you were going to do an 8 x 8 print, I would print on 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 paper ( 8 1/2 x 11 trimmed ) and frame in a 12 x 12 frame, or what ever was the next size larger frame.

    John,
I frame based on the composition. Additionally, I mostly print to A3 these days.
That said I do use 'poster style' framing, allowing a margin around the image with additional space at bottom and or side for titling etc.

I don't do much 'square' framing but ....

    Steve,

By standard I meant either 4"x6" or 8"x10" or some where near those ratios. Thanks for the suggestions on print dimensions.

    James,

Very nice examples. The first photo represents how my square format would appear and your second example (with text)is how I envisioned its display.
