    Egrets

    Here are several shots some I left dark (as Shot) but are backlight which I kind of liked the look what do you think?

    Beautiful photos, (#1 is a bit dark) and #3 is stunning. I love all of your bird photos but I think #3 is my favourite of all your egret shots for the beautiful light, composition, exceptional detail and for the moment you captured.

    I really like #3. The light under the wings really shows up the textures. I also like the freeze on the water and the pose.

    I'm not sure about the others. I see what you mean about the backlight but I'm having trouble with the eye being so shaded. Maybe just a little bit brighter on #1?

    I like your idea, Roger. One of my favorite (not necessarily successful) things is to use dynamic range to isolate a subject. IMO the first two would be a bit more effective if you selectively brought out the shadows on the bird to reveal just a bit more detail. Or take it the other way to a true silhouette. You're kind of in between.

    Nicely done Roger, I might lighten the first two but that is only my preference. The third is my favorite but then I do love reflections.
