Gary, Perfection. Can we have the technical details on this one ?
Lovely and accomplished panorama, Wayland. I especially like the contrast between the "three graces" on the right and the new stuff on the left -I know which I prefer
Did you take the shots from right across the estuary?
No problem Grahame.
The Daytime shot was taken just before sunset. 16 vertical FF RAW shots at 135mm 1/5 of a second f/16 iso.100
The night shot was about an hour later, 13 vertical FF RAW shots at 135mm 4 seconds f/8 iso.100
Day and Night frames were imported separately into Photoshop from Lightroom as layers and then composited manually with layer masks.
Once these panoramas were completed I opened flattened versions as layers into a new Photoshop file and then vertically flipped the night shot and manually blended them with layer masks.
There was a bit of local contrast management as usual but I guess it's the compositing you want to know most about.
Dave, I was positioned on the dockside near Alfred Dock on the Wallasey side of the Mersey. It's a great viewpoint although I felt a little exposed out there on my own at night.
Very nice imagery and great PP... The problem with panos is that they are always too small when viewed on a monitor! I would expect that this image would be absolutely smashing if viewed as a print about .3 meters high vertically with the horizontal stretch falling where it might!
You can see a slightly bigger copy on my web site here if you like.
As you say though, there is enough detail in the capture to fill a billboard.
Thank Gary,
A great concept and one of the first I have seen using the different times of day. A pity that the ferry had sailed
Very nicely done, Gary, and a good concept
Great idea and execution Gary, thanks for sharing
Phil, seeing the Pans you have done I can't help thinking there is a good opportunity for you there.
Dave, Glad you like it. As far as I am concerned sharing is what photography is all about.
Very nice, must have been hard to stop at 16?
It's an immense file that is for certain. I tend to overlap the frames by a little over half so that if any individual file has a problem then there may be enough information on the adjacent frames.
I've trimmed a little off the ends of the daylight composite that's why the night composite features less frames. The buildings at the extremities had much less interest in the dark.
