    The Eleanor Schonell Bridge

This bridge is a relatively new cable-stayed bridge that crosses the Brisbane River at the St Lucia campus of the University of Qld. It takes buses, cyclists and pedestrians but no cars. I tried to get a couple of different angles on the bridge.

The first shot was taken after sunset and is primarily about the sky with the bridge as an item of interest in the foreground. I didn't have a lens wide enough for this so I had to stitch four portrait orientation shots. I wasn't sure how it would go with all the complex shapes but it only needed minor perspective adjustment at the end to straighten up the main pylons.

The second shot was taken just after sunrise and focusses mainly on the bridge itself. The main emphasis here was the light.

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions. Pls click on images for best view.

I like the second one too, more balance in the picture.

Really nice Dave. Perfectly exposed. I prefer the first composition, it's a different perspective than the norm and I like that.

I really like the first one, Dave. I wonder if you could possibly changed your angle slightly so that the top cable on the left didn't cut the lines of the lightpole.

When the 2nd one opened up in the larger size, the bottom of the image lined up with the bottom of the first pylon and it looked good to me. But then I scrolled down a tad and saw the bushed on the left. I find them a bit distracting. Also noticed a bit of haloing around the two spikey leaves on the bottom left corner, and around the two pines (?) projecting above the vegatation line in the top left corner.

I think you have done a great job with both of them though.

Thanks for your comments Jason and Greg. It's interesting to see how different people have different preferences - just a matter of personal taste I suppose.

Greg in both shots, I had very little freedom to move from where I took the shots. I just couldn't avoid the distractions you mention ! A bit of judicious cloning might be possible in the second shot.
