    Yosemite Half Dome in IR

Half Dome of Yosemite National Park, California, shot in infra red with Canon D60 (not 60D) converted to full time infra red photography. 12-24mm f/4 Tokina @ 19mm; 1/125 second @ f/11. B&W conversion with NIK.

Processed slightly differently with more detail in Half Dome but, the image is not quite as dramatic.

    41 views and no comments?

    That's because they're beautiful, Richard

I would prefer a little more tonal separation between the clouds, rock face on the left of the image and foliage, but understand that that is the nature of IR phtography.

I notice the no comment thing a lot as well.

I think I prefer the latter one but I tend to down play the infrared "effect" in my work.

Just my preference but both are lovely images.

That's generally because my shots are rubbish, Gary

I prefer the first one. I really really like it. Nice job. I wish I had the opportunity to go there.

    Great shot, Richard.

I think I like #2 the best. I prefer to see more detail on the rock. That's really where my eye goes first.

    Very nice!

Thanks for the nice comments. I like B&W infrared and the D60 is a fine camera for that type of work.

However, second thoughts are always the best but, I wish that I had converted a really good P&S camera to full time IR. I recycled an "ancient" Canon D60 which was the second Canon 1.6x DSLR (after the D30). The D60 does a really creditable job as an infra red camera but, being a DSLR, it is too heavy to carry on a journey for the few IR shots that I would shoot. A P&S camera would have solved that problem...

Yosmite is an absolutely beautiful area. It along with a portion of the Li River in China between Yangshuo and Guilin, has the most picturesque views crammed into a relatively small area of any place I have ever visited. I have also heard this is true regarding Venice, were "every turn has a picture waiting". I am anxious to visit there in June...

Unfortunately, I did not have IR capability with me in China. I considered getting an IR filter which would have provided "limited" IR capability but, I don't like the terribly long exposures needed.
