    Balanced Rock

Despite that I used a 300mm lens mounted on a camera with a 1.5 crop factor, the scene was so far above me that I still had to crop to use only about half of the original image.

I think of Damocles. One thing for sure, this rock will fall, but we don't know when, and we don't know where.

Mike imagine this being shot at the right time of day - early morning or late afternoon.

The rock - one day is one day and: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mukurob Mike has a great memory in his photo library.

Sheesh! You two are already planning for the demise of the rock.

Glad you were a safe distance away - I think.

I was joking with my wife that though we were a long way from it, we were directly beneath it with nothing to stop it if it fell toward us rather than away from us.

    Interesting view, Mike.

Much of the image seems overly bright, and you might want to try darkening the entire image, except for the large rock in upper left. The result was more appealing to me when I did it at home. You may not like it though.

Thanks, Ken. You're right that the brightness is a matter of taste and I appreciate your suggestion.

Nice comp with the position of the rock. I don't find the angle you were shooting from to be bothersome. The colors do seem to be washed out.

I agree about the colors being a bit washed out, Dan. That's mostly due to shooting upward at noon time. It also might be due somewhat to differences between monitors and browsers being used.
