Very effective method of accentuating the subject. I prefer it to the over used monochrome background. Would prefer it if I could see the rest of the legs and shoes. An interesting study.
Hi L.Paul and thanks for the feedback. good point on the legs. sadly i just went back to confirm that it wasn't a bad crop and i don't have a shot with him completely in the frame.
i will tell him to sit on the ground again next time! (i don't think i can pull that off w/o loosing my job haha!)
I agree, Jimmy: very cool affect. I wonder if it would better if you toned down the red shirt and the blue striped shirt a little.
Greg when I first looked at the photograph I felt the background (including the red and striped shirts) would benefit by being toned down a fraction but now at home viewing it on a calibrated monitor I think they are fine. The contrast differentiation between the subject and the background has improved to an extent that the accent is clearly on his face and hands so the lack of feet does not bother me quite as much. The skin tones seem a fraction on the warm side.
Hah! Thanks for that Paul.
I have a quad setup - or the remains of one. One monitor died a few months back and another is moribund -- twinkling pixels. I was viewing the image on that monitor, but now I drag over onto one of the two 'healthy' ones, and I agree with you. The shirts are less noticable and the face is tad warm.
Jimmy, interesting image. Almost wish no one was standing behind him.
