    It's the first time I ever saw a moth with this colouring.

    I'm not an expert by a long way but it looks like a Rosy Maple Moth (Dryocampa rubicunda). The colours are not quite correct but the pattern fits and there could be some variation in colour.

    Thanks for the info - some more Googling to do. The hummingbird hawk moth pictures I found online don't look like the one in my picture....
