That's nothing. They will launch a new lens as well:

Ironically, even if they DID produce that lens, some would moan that it should have been 14 - 800 and F1.2 ... as well as it being slightly soft around the edges below F1.8.

    You read my mind.
I was always thinking that Pentax one day would produce a 10 - 500 mm 1:1.2 lens

Lets see who'll be the first to work out the diameter of the front element

The reason it took so long to come out with the L series is that they had to retool manufacturing to include left-handed robotics.

Let's see: F-stop is (focal length)/(diaphragm diameter) so F=1.2 would translate to a diameter of about 417 mm (~16 inch). The front lens probably has to be a bit bigger, so let's say 18-20'.

Am I mistaken? I 've been taught the formula is the focal length [600] divided by the aperture [2.8]. That makes the front lens diameter 214 mm, which is appx 8.4".

    Hi,

Sorry, I think we're all talking about different lenses here - I was referring to the Canon 14-800/1.2 - Arslan the Pentax 10-500/1.2 - and you, the 16-600/2.8

Thank you. I was worried for a bit that I learned the wrong thing.

    Best,
