Bernie - As the specs say it is compatible with FX which is another way of saying it is a "FX lens". A DX only lens would not list FX as a compatible option. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the rapid reply John. But it states FX in DX Crop mode so that mean it does not use the full sensor?

Bernie - As it says it will also work in FX OR DX crop mode which is a setting in your new camera. Don't worry. If the specs say FX then it means the image will cover the entire FX frame and you are good. Also notice they also say 35mm film which has the same format as FX.

    Easy way to remember:

If its a DX lens it will have DX stamped on the barrel - it is doesn't its a full frame lens.

The reason to look at it this way is old Nikon (fit) lenses may not have any references to sensor size as they were designed and built before digital cameras existed. In which case you can safely assume if they don't say they were designed for 35mm film format which is what a FX sensor is.

I own both a D800 and the f/2.8 24-70mm lens. Yes, it is a Fx lens.
