    Redwing Blackbird

I came across this little guy when out on my Kayak this morning.

    Redwing Blackbird

And a little something for any Canucks on board...

Thanks Joe. Yes...Freezing. Hands and feet were numb after awhile. I need to wait a month. More wildlife around then as well.

Monte I have been trying to photograph redwings, I just cant seem to capture the detail in the blacks... which you have done expertly.

You didn't see the other 25 images with no black detail

The only time I could get a decent shot was when they turned into the sun. With any shadow at all it is just pure black.
See the underside of this image below. Nothing but pure blackness.

Well done, Monte. We are having a strange season, while the temp is climbing the birds are late to leave and late to come in....we may both be waiting that extra month.

You need 'good light' to get it looking like this James, so maybe you've been unlucky with the light to date, I'm sure your time will come.

Great shot Monte, we don't get them here

I see, reading below James's post and with the second example, you came to the same conclusion on light

We have other black coloured birds - and the problems photographing them are universal.

    Cheers,

Beautiful shot as usual, Monte. And thanks for posting the other so we know you are a mere mortal. Sometimes I can't believe the number of shots I throw out compared to the few that I feel show an improvement in my skill level.

I really like the position of the bird perched on the cattail too. It makes a nice composition.

Nice job. That's a classic with him hanging on the catail.
