    sea king

while spending some time at lands-end,Cornwall with my family.a navy sea king rescue helicopter flew over our heads and my kids were waving at. the crew must of seen them waving and circled back over the coast to fly over us 3 or 4 times while the flight crew waved back at us.my kids were completely over the moon by this and considering all sea king helicopters are 40 to 50 years old and are being phased out by 2016.and since i've seen them in action since the early 80's this really did make my day and a lasting memory of the sea king.
    c&c welcome
i must confess that i struggled a bit with the shutter speed trying the blur the rotors and keeping the rest sharp.as you can see i went with less blur to freeze the motion.but i'd be interested if anyone tips in case i'm in the right place at the right time again.

So good of that crew to be so accommodating. It's a great set.

I think you did very well in your choice of shutter speed. You wouldnt want to completely freeze the blades, and you've utilized a shutter that kept the craft sharp but still was true to the blade motion.

I dont have an EXIF viewer on this computer. Might be good to see your settings to see how much setting allowance you might have explored.

Nicely done- glad you had camera in-hand.

MY EXIF viewer shows 1/250s on the first three and 1/320s on the last one Kevin - all at f/16 and iso100 (I think).

Good series Paul, I would say that speed was 'just right'.

    Cheers,

    Hi Paul,
Love the last one especially. Looks very dynamic. Can you strengthen the cloud texture to make it more dramatic? Perhaps try BW (not at my normal set-up otherwise I would try also).

Looks alright to me. Nothing wrong with the shutter speed and you would need to know the rotor speed anyway, it might not be all that quick but the edges are going faster. Best person to ask is Dave above.
