I thought it would be fun to shoot the moon...

...and I was correct! It was quick and easy, and I am really happy with the result.

    Canon 7D, Canon 400mm f5.6L, ISO 100, f5.6, 1/125s
Converted in LR, further PP in Pshop

edit- I should add that I used mirror lockup, and a wireless shutter release, and had the gear firmly set up on a sturdy tripod/head. (The lens collar foot is clamped into the ballhead)

I thought it would be fun to shoot the moon...

And so you should be. If you want to see what others have done with the same subject, just go to 'Discussion Categories' above and choose 'Astrophotography'.

Looks like you are having some fun with the new lens. Good work. When I first got my 400mm I did not take it off the camera for 8 months! lol

    Thanks Bryan and Paul.

Bryan, I'm not sure what gear you are using but make sure you have a good support system and use a wireless or cable release of some sort. Also, a long lens helps a lot.

    Paul. Yes. OMG this lens.

Amazing detail in the photo Matt. Great job.
You're making me very jealous with the quality of the images you are putting out with your new lens.

Greg, thanks for looking, and thanks for the kind words. It is the best quality lens I have ever used. Thankfully I also bought the 7D camera, as it annihilates my old 30D in every way possible. All of that said (and this is just a general note, not specifically directed at you), I'd like to point out that one should not discount the importance of good post processing in order to achieve quality images. A raw file can't compare to a properly PP image. I've learned a lot about PP from the good folks on this forum, as well as the tutorials, and just a lot of research on the internet.
