    2005 - Elephant

Hi. I was looking at some old stuff and found this wonderful creature. It was shot back in 2005 at North Carolina Zoo, with a Sony Powershot P-73, 4.1 Mp (). So, despite of camera constraints, I decided to convert it to monochrome and see what I would be able to get. Here is one of the results. C&C welcome. Thanks for viewing!
    Cheers!

The toning is great and fits the subject perfectly. I'd like to see more detail in the deepest shadows and I'd like to see the foreground plants removed to take the image to the next level.

Mike, thanks for your comments! Although the image is really small in size, it's difficult to work with shadow/lighting without affecting the quality. Anyway, I tried to follow your suggestions on the image below. Does it look better? Regards...

    Otavio,
A good picture of a magnificent animal (I like both versions of the photo).

    Hi Otavio,

In Africa we find the Powershot a little light to do the job and shoot Elephants with a .458 Winchester. A very good capture however and a beautiful conversion.

Andre - I thought you can only shoot elephants with a camera, unless you are a poacher.

Good conversion Otavio. I like the edit too.

Thanks, Andre, for your comments. I hope you only use a Winchester rifle on FPS videogames! Cheers!

No Bobo, It is legal to shoot an Elephant with a rifle if you have a permit. They can do enormous damage to the environment.

Otavio, once you look into those innocent eyes, how can you squeeze the trigger? I cannot do it, better to leave it to the hunters.

Amazing what removing two small plants (which I admittedly hadn't even noticed) can bring to the professionality of the photo. This one is excellent. The tone and colors are perfect for this shot. Probably not much color excitement in the original color image anyway, huh? Great shot.

Hi, Wes. Yes, sometimes certain details can cause big impacts! And I agree with you about lack of excitement on original color image. This is the kind of image that does not cause much impact seen in color. Everybody is tired of watching elephants on Animal planet/Nat Geo/Discovery, but the monochrome does work, IMO. It makes it a stronger image, if I can say that. Thanks for viewing/commenting! Cheers...
