    Require feedback.

    Hi all,

I have just started to learn photography and I took this picture from my room of the front street lamp and a few plants in front of it. Would love to have your feedback (both from a technical and creative perspective).

    Thanks!
    Arpan.

Welcome to CIC, person with no name, it would help to know your name as it is easier than calling you: pwnn (person with no name) and where you are located as it will help in future if you are wanting to get something than we will know not to send you to a store on the US east coast when you live in say Chile. I would also sugges that you read the tutorials on how to post to the site as trying to look at thumbnails is a waste of time as you have a hard time seeing them.

    Cheers:

    Allan

It doesn't quite work for me, Arpan.

Maybe if we could see more of the light to put the scene into context?

Or possibly turn it into B&W and slightly increase the highlights.

But exposure and focus seem fine.

    Hi Allan,

I had put in my name in the post. To reiterate, my name is Arpan. I am located in New Delhi, India. This was the first time I am posting, so didn't have much idea on how to go about it. Will definitely read the tutorial that you mentioned in your post.

    Thanks!
    Arpan.

    Thanks Geoff!

I will try implementing the changes tonight and see how it goes!

    Thanks!

    Re: Require feedback.

Hi Arpen - the image looks quite underexposed, when I look at the histogram. I find the colours a bit muddy (unless this is the effect you are trying to achieve) and I find the bright yellow of the stand at the very right of the image a bit distracting. It is the brightest thing in the scene and attracts the eyes, rather than the main subject matter; perhaps you might want to crop that out and see what you think.

Thanks Manfred! I will try it tonight and let you know how it goes. I have just started to learn photography. I am yet to study and understand how to analyse a histogram. But I have heard it's a very useful tool. I will try cropping the image and let you know.

    Thanks!

    Hi Arpan,

I can't really add much to the other's feedback on the picture.

I am yet to study and understand how to analyse a histogram. But I have heard it's a very useful tool.
Have you seen our tutorial on Histograms?

Could you do me a favour please?
Could you Edit your Profile and put "Arpan" in the Real Name field and "New Delhi, India" in the Location field? - thanks - and it'll stop people asking

Thanks Dave! I made the changes in my Profile!

I got hold of a book called "Complete Digital Photography" by Ben Long. I am currently reading that. But yes, I have also bookmarked the tutorial and I keep reading those regularly. I like reading sequentially so I don't miss anything and haven't reached there yet.

    Thanks!
    Arpan.
