    The Big BRRRRrrrrrr

Our recent conditions but these birds don't mind them too much.

    Thanks for looking.

    Bobo,

I don't know what to say. They just look cold. Which is is the point I suppose, so nice images.

Actually it reminds me that I have been looking at some articles on shooting complimentary colours and using a limited colour pallet (Alain Briot. I haven't been able to find an suitable subject to experiment on. These are almost monochrome in blue and white. The colours really give the message.

    Thanks Graham.

They are pretty active especially when they see someone throwing bread.

Their biggest problems were not so much the cold but slipping all over the ice. Some hilarious moments but failed to catch those.

I was debating whether to tone down the blue but left it as is in the end. Blue does seem to convey cold better then white.

Thanks for the Alain Briot pointer, will see what he is up to.

I like the composition of the second one a lot.

Try applying a warming slider to the entire image. Add just enough warmth to make the white part of the bird devoid of color cast. Doing so will leave plenty of blue tones in the water and ice to convey the sense of cold, but will allow the bird to stand out more from the background.

I tried finding a neutral tone in the image blown up to 400% and never found one. That's why I ended up using a warming slider.

Bobo, regarding the shots, I like them a lot! Nice compositions. Regarding the BRRRR, I think our birds would not last a minute in such a cold environment!

If you allow me to leave my opinion on the above, I think the warmer seagull on second version of #2 looks something like a selective color pic. On the other hand, I cant disagree on Mike's thoughts. So, what I mean is that, maybe, an intermediate set point would be nice!

    Thanks for sharing them...Cheers...

    Thanks Otavio.

You are right. Fixed somewhat. Returned some of the blue to the shadow areas of the gull.

    Thanks Nandakumar.

He was probably being smart and staying away from the crowd. If food turns up he would not be obstructed.
