    Friday night in Sydney

Hi all, I did a night photgraphy course in the city on Friday night, lots of experimenting and a good chance to get me out with the tripod, the city was extremely busy which presented some challenges but a good night had by all. All pics were taken in JPEG and RAW, so any suggestions for when I do my PP are welcome as is C&C - a small selection here - cheers

Certainly seems to have been a great success. That's a nice set of images.

Just a thought about this one ...........

I think this is a superb idea, well-executed. The motion blur on the people works really really well and it's very well lit. I did wonder about cropping at the left, just to leave a bit of the man's elbow in shot. In other words, just in front of the face of the woman looking to the left. Why?

Well, those street lamps. I think they pull attention away over to that side. But, secondly and even more importantly, I think the fact that the man at the left was motionless and is not blurred like the other people, detracts significantly. He becomes, I think, a major focal point because of that. View it with that man and the lamps hidden and I think it becomes a much stronger image. Just one person's view, which can be disagreed with.

thanks Donald - looking at it now I tend to agree - it also actually centres the Opera House more by cropping as per your suggestion and is then the centre of attention - regards

Was there something special going on, or is it alway like that?

I like #4. Although I tend to agree with Donald's comments, I would try a bit of blurring on the in-focus guy rather than cropping. If you crop I think you might lose the affect of the 'wedge' of people running across the frame.
