Nice series, Bobo. I like all of them and think the color has worked very well. My question is....what does Bobo think? I like them in this order, 2, 1, 4, 3.

Hehe, I like #2 best and am ambivalent about the rest.

It was a learning experience trying to find something brown within brown.

Due to proximity of fore and back objects getting isolation and a good blur was another.

Now when finding those same situations... look for that which have one or the other lit, the other being in shadow. While the same color the difference can help with the seperation and make for a very nice scene. #2 is a step or three above the rest.

I love these shots; they go great together as a series. Very harmonious. Masterful control of DOF, background, and composition.

edit - the white borders are a nice touch

Thanks Grahame, Matt, Andre. Glad these went down ok with you guys.

Thanks Paul for the lighting tip - main problem here is that the sky at the moment is like a big diffuser and everything is evenly lit. I get the point though.

    Bobo,

The newer 2 shots, for me personally, have too much "negative space" - They feel slightly off balance to me. That said, I do really like #5 a lot. All in the series are very nice, it's hard to pick a favorite!

Thanks Matt, useful critique. I agree they are a bit off balance. Will not happen again.

Okay, you have heard from the experts, and now it is the chance for the peanut gallery, namely me, to speak up!
In #1 and #2 for me there is excellent handling of the background against very sharp crisply focused primary subjects which to my eye with this gave them a real 3D quality. They leaped out at me and the softness of the backgrounds complemented and did not distract. So much so that in #3 I would have said " hang it all I am going for brokah" and used more blurring of the background, similar to 1 and 2. Very nice work which I enjoyed seeing. Thank you for posting them. And that's about it from the peanut gallery.

For me, #2 is exceptional. Terrific framing and placement of the subject within the background.

    Thanks Mike.

1 out of 6 is not a bad score especially for me.

There have been times in the past and no doubt more in the future that an entire day of shooting resulted in everything being deleted.

I am in awe of those who report +90% keeper rates who then delete all but 1 or 2.

Re: Winter Flora - for Paul (jeeperman)

#2 is my favorite, I could see that hanging in my cottage. #4 is too busy for my eyes. #6 I would crop 1/2 the dead space. This is, of course, just my opinion. They are all nicely exposed and sharp (I would expect no less).
I would love too have a 90% keep rate. At this time I think I am around 2.7%
    Cheers

Re: Winter Flora - for Paul (jeeperman)

Thanks Jon. Agree with the general assessments. Only get something like #2 and stop looking around for "filler" shots. I think maybe the "keeper" issue arises when I do not know when to stop.

I am getting there though. A while back I posted 1 pic of a colourful twig with buds. That twig was the only shot made that day.

2.7% dang that is 1.5% more than Bobo.
