    The City Gull

    The City Gull

They congregate in large numbers around the junk joints (eg Ronald's keeper), the supermarkets, any place where they can feed/breed without actually having to go look for food.

There is a mixed variety that gathers in parks and along waters for fish during off days and out in force during human holidays chasing human food.

There are fortunately quite a few "normal" ones who still do it the hard way ie catch fish.

I have not paid attention to gulls in the past but with nothing much going on in the park decided to document some of their "holiday" behaviour.

First the obligatory flight and landing shots

    2. Canada goose not too amused.

    Now the nasty ones.

    3. Chasing other birds trying to steal what is no longer theirs.

    5. Mob behaviour and calling in the troops to deal with larger birds.

The goose lost the pizza battle despite his best efforts.

Oh and the worst - bombing of the very people who bring them goodies. The guy next to me got hit and I was not about to piss him off more by taking the shot.

    Hope you like.

NIce images, interesting series with comments. Our gulls here are always around the fishing piers, although Monday at Black Point Wildlife Drive there was a huge flock but too far out to capture.

Makes me think of someone I know very well - small but cheeky.

The first one is terrific! Great composition, depth of field, and motion in the wing tips. Perhaps a little more contrast in the feather details of the subject would be helpful.

I too like the first and agree with Mike. The Gulls can be fun to shoot.

    Thanks guys.

First bird outing in months so had to have something easy and handy to shake off the rust.

Nothing compared to the exotics that Joe, Paul, and others bring us but happy for this outing. Of course more so the swans shots in the other post.

    I will re-work #1 a bit per suggestions.
