    Waterlily, C&C please......

Last Sunday I went to the Botanic Garden, and it started to rain, so was not able to shoot many photos as planed, but managed the one of the waterlilys, I am not to keen on the black spot which shows on the right of the photo, but don't know how to remove them........

    Please C&C, thank you......

    Hi Griddi

Not sure what PP software you have but have just opened the image in Elements and easily removed the black spots using the 'Clone' tool.

As for critique of the image, in my opinion, a crop removing some of the right side and placing the flower in the upper right third improves it along with sorting the levels and some slight sharpening. I also put a white drop shadow frame on it that helped.

I'll post an example if you like but would not do this without asking first.

Dave, thank you very much too, as I mentioned already to Grahame, I don't know how to use a clone tool, although I have this in my PP program, perhaps I should Google about this ?

As I had always the problem to oversharpen my photos, I am now extra careful with sharpening, but perhaps should add just a bit more in future......

    Kind Regards,
    Griddi......

    Hi Griddi,

    Below is my attempt.

    Waterlily, C&C please......

With the crop I undertook I only needed to remove the inner of the two black spots. I have used a 10x8 ratio but I'm sure a 6x4 would work as well. As for the pp treatment this is very minor and I'm sure far better could be achieved using the original full sized file.

Do you have the software that allows you to 'clone' ? If so, I'm sure that if you need help on how to use it you will get it here.

    Hi Griddi,

You are welcome. Looking at the mod I did again it may be too bright but gives you an idea anyway.

Cloning is simply a matter of selecting an example area with the target tool that you wish to use to 'replace' the area you do not want. You may also have a choice of the opacity you use whilst doing this so you can build up slowly so as not to get hard lines.

Well done, Griddi. I think Grahame is on the right track with both the edit and the comment afterwards.

    Grahame and Paul, thank you......

As soon I have a bit more time, I will try to do some cloning on a sort of " learner photo "see how it will work out.......
