John : You can 'Practice' sport photography like this if you go to a local park on a Sunday -- it's free and they do not mind ! I used to organise sport photography for Brentwood Photo-Club members over King George's Playing Fields off the Ingrave Road -- if I get a sports job for the local newspaper where people have to PAY to get in I get in FREE of course by showing the e-mailed job order, or they all know me by now -- in the 1970's I went to Wembley Stadium several times when Billericay Town were in the final of the FA Vase Competition, which they WON !

The photo of the cricketer hitting the ball is interesting; it took me a little while to work out what probably happened - that he moved forward out of his crease to hit a wide shot to his right and behind him. My first thought was "the ball is coming towards him and he's going to slog it", then I thought "hey, this is cricket, not softball".
