    After work fun

I watched the clouds move all day while working. Finished up and they were dead still....of course. By the time I got to my turn off to home they started to move a little so I pulled into the park at the end of my street for a quick play. This was a good 2-2 1/2 hrs before sunset so the color was a bonus. I caught the clouds moving in two directions, seen best in the first image.

Paul, the first image may show the clouds moving in two directions but the second image is mesmerizing. Lovely light.

Both beautiful! I also like #2 better because of the additional color. I love the smoothness of the water. It's just a very peaceful image for me even with the drama in the sky.

Very nice. Reminds me of that night photo I took there..the clouds and light are similar. You're making me want to try some daytime long exposures...which means I have to buy a very expensive filter, right?

    Thanks Jon, Terri and Matt.

Matt, I had planned shooting these some time ago but did not have the filter you speak of at the time. Then a couple weeks ago you posted your night shot and I had just gotten my filter the week prior. I had not yet made it out there on a suitable day. They would go well together with your night image.

In answer to your question....yes, for daytime long exposure you will need a very dark filter. How dark depends upon how low your ISO can be set and how much effect you want/ length of exposure desired. These were 120 seconds for the one with more color and 180 seconds for the other @ ISO 50 and F16.
I used a 10stop ND and a 3 stop soft grad to better control the bright bits of sky as the sun was straight out on the right side of the dock.

Both are really nice but the second one is a cut above for me. I'm not sure, but I think I would consider getting rid of the barge and its crane.

#2 for me too, I like how the brighter sky reflection separates the jetty/pier from the far shore, which is not so obvious in the first due to the similarity of tones.

    Excellent,

Wicked green color cast, paul. Other than that, nice image.

I like that color cast and assumed it is intentional.

Thanks everyone, the color cast was intentional although it was not until I put them here together that I saw how strong it was. still, seen seperately I like the second as it is.

    Re: After work fun

Steve, The filter does cause a blue cast and on occasion som green cast. However when I fixed it I did not like the all grey, the touch of green was nice. However I did remove more of it in the first image and should have went a tad further.

No worries, per your C&C. I would rather you mention it than not as you have caught me with un intentional casts before.
