Father and Son Fishing, BW
I came across this picture and originally took it in color. After playing with various crops and development angles I decided it looked best as a pure black an white. I hope you enjoy it and look forward to your comments.

Hi Karm,
I like this, nice and sharp outline, plus I like the overall composition.
Well done.

Nicely done! Now that is a wall hanger!!:)
Re: Father and Son Fishing, BW
This would make a great note card being sent to any one who enjoys fishing or to any father-and-son team.
Re: Father and Son Fishing, BW
Karm although this "threshold" technique is such a cliche, in this case it works particular well!
I like the fishing rod of the child being partly white in front of the father giving continuity to the figures. And the reflections work great this way.

Hi Karm
Impressive.
Photography pared down to the bone. I like that.
One little niggle though, the neck of the boy looks distorted, like a reflection and automatically draws my eyes.
But in this pic all the natural reflections and distortions occur below the mirror line.
I find it disconcerting and, unless it is a wanted effect, I would correct it.
Cheers
Wolf
Re: Father and Son Fishing, BW
Hi Wolf. The distortion on the neck is the boy's shirt collar. Help me understand your second comment concerning the mirror line. All reflections are what appeared in the original photograph.

With mirror line I mean the line where the reflection of the boat and the people start.
Anyway, great pic. And gave me some ideas for the white balance:) of some of my pics.

Hi Karm, I came across your image for "father and son fishing" when I was searching Google images. I am writing a book about the building of giant Crosses of Hope in South Africa to help prevent suicides after 88 people jumped off Van Stadens bridge to kill themselves. this is a true story. I would very much like to use your image in my book. Would you give me permission please? It is a non profit making book to help other people. Although I cannot pay you, I can give you full credit in the book for the image. Please let me know. Kind Regards Robbie Hift

Robbie - this is a very old thread (January 2013) and Karm has not logged onto the site in well over a year, so chances of him getting your message are quite low.
