Double the resolution for the New Year ;-)

Officially, it's for the Wife but ya know how that goes! We're eagerly awaiting the arrival of a micro four-thirds Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 - their first micro 4/3" model, I believe. Just bought a body-only and a brand-new 14-42mm Vario kit lens to go with it.

So "we" are jumping from 55 lp/mm (Sigma SD10) to 111 lp/mm (G1). Should be fun. EVF, image stabilized, giant RAW files, etc. Can't wait . . .

It's a decent camera, I used one for a few years, and it served me well until one day it just wouldn't start again. I still have the two lenses for it, but I got an Olympus OM-D instead, and there is a difference.

I learned to love the swiveling screen and the quick AF that could be centered mostly anywhere and where the spot could easily be shrunk to a very small size. For low shots, close to the ground, the swivel screen is invaluable. It is a good tool.

Yes Urban, one of your "snake pool" shots which I had already seen when researching 4/3".

Nice shot, and Season's Greetings to you.

Hi, my tip for the Lumix DMC G1:
try out the noise reduction settings and maybe you will end up like me and always set it on -2.
There will be noise but no smearing. If necessary the noise can be handled afterward.

Thanks Julien, duly copied into my G1 notes.

Must be good photography in Ghent, very old city.
