Flight of the Dragonfly... More Images Added

This morning my wife saw this dragonfly hovering in our backyard. It would go away and then return to hover again. I hurried out with my camera. The camera was struggling to focus on the dragonfly, wanting to focus across the fairway on the houses and trees. To overcome this I focused on the grass approximately the distance that the dragonfly was away, with this as a starting point if locked onto focus. Posted below is the one I like the best. C&C welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Looks like your focus trick worked splendidly. Impressive DOF for a side-shot too, just look at them wings . .

That is amazing. How did you manage to get the shot of him in flight without the wings blurring?

I am not at all surprised. That is a magnificent image. Nothing more to say really. Just wonderful. That's sheer skill.

Hello Tom, thank you for your comment. Regarding your question... a very high shutter speed and a lot of luck.

A shot that is really difficult to nail and you did it. Well done.

Thanks Bobo, very much appreciated. I told you once that I did not attempt to shoot dragonflies in flight when you were posting them, yesterday I cound not resist. This one kept coming back and hovering. I was amazed looking at the image and seeing the legs folded up against the body. It made me think of retractable landing gear.

Hello Steve, thank you for viewing and commenting. I think this dragonfly was much like your hummingbirds, it kept coming back to hover.
