    As colin would say..........grey bird

This is a great blue heron(colin ) , shot on a nesting site in march. About 100 pairs nest there. Can't wait for spring to go back. I've learned alot since then.

Just going through some old images and editing. Any feedback is welcome.

They are fun to watch...............some land above the nest and limb-walk in, and others fly straight in.

I really like the second one. It seems very nicely balanced, if that makes any sense.

agree, the twigs seem too much in the way in the first shot

Well , when you're 30 feet up in a tree taking pictures, you can't move for a better angle.

Fascinating stuff, which shows it can be about more than just taking images and as much about learning about behaviours. Interestingly, I've become aware of more herons around and about here than previous.

Reminds me of when people say "zoom with your feet" - doesn't work too well when you're shooting waterfalls and there's a 30 foot drop 3 feet behind you!

    I completely understand

One step off my 20" x 30" platform and i'm dropping 30+ feet(30feet in the tree + tree on the edge of a steep slope.) I'm tied in though, so i won't go far

Can't wait till this spring to do it again. ( Wish i had a FF with a 600mm L lens.) It's an awesome place.........birds flying in and out all day long...........young squaking all day for food.

I didn't know much about photography or processing back then, but here are a couple images i got..................
