    Peek-a-boo

Shot this at our local aviary. I was just about to leave after a very difficult day of shooting - had all my gear packed up - when I spotted this burrowing owl poking its head out of its burrow and decided to pull everything back out and try for a couple more. This ended up being the best shot from the set.

    Peek-a-boo

    C&C welcome. Thanks for viewing

Lovely image, I am jealous not only of the fine work but also the experience of seeing and caputuring such a beautiful bird.

Rob - yes, these little guys (maybe 12" tall) were very attentive and followed the camera wherever I moved it to!

Joe - I've been a bit envious of your recent bird shots as well. My wife is very into birding, so I should probably plant the seed that we should do a birding trip to Florida - I doubt it would take much convincing since I've been showing her your photos and they always elicit ooohs and aaahs.

If there is an owl that can be considered cute....it is the Burrowing Owl, love these little guys and you have captured him nicely, Bill.

Excellent capture Bill, how about a tighter crop?

Oh, I think all owls are cute, but these guys are especially so - particularly when they are running around on the ground.

    Bedanta,

I think a tighter crop would hide the fact that it is a burrowing owl though. I wanted to give enough of the scene to show that it isn't just a head-and-shoulders of just any owl. By showing the rocks around its burrow, I feel it separates it a bit.
