Re: Birds (my first thread with them)
Hi Antônio. You've done a great job! My favourite is #2. It's an incredible result in terms of details, considering you didnt use a DSLR! Nice backgrounds and compositions. I would only suggest you to selectively increase the bird's exposure a little on #3.
Very nice set and thanks for sharing! Cheers...

Re: Birds (my first thread with them)
Otavio,
Thank you for your encouraging comments. The second photo is also my favorite. I'll try to improve picture # 3.
Do you know what kind of bird that appears in photos # 3 and # 4?
Antonio.

Re: Birds (my first thread with them)
Antonio, while I don't know my birds from your area...it appears to be a Cattle Tyrant. A link that may help.... http://chandra.as.utexas.edu/~kormendy/brazilbirds.html
You have done a good job for your first go at birds....very good. A couple of things I might suggest..... try and find them on something closer to a natural habitat and try and find them lower so you can be more at their level. I know this is not always possible but it will improve the image you come away with.

Re: Birds (my first thread with them)
At a first glance, I would say it is not a Kiskadee, but looking again (and again) I think it could be a Kiscadee, but surely not an adult, maybe a "teenagerr" one. It also looks like some variation of a Rufous-bellied Thrush (Sabiá), but the beak is quite different. Maybe somebody here will help you to confirm if it is a kiskadee.
Regards...

Re: Birds (my first thread with them)
Paul,
Thank you for your feedback. You're right, it is better to shoot the birds in their natural habitat (although the habitat of sparrows appears to be the environment of cities). I got a little time with Nikon P510 and I'm still learning to use it properly and so I have taken the photos near my house.
You're also right about the bird photos # 3 and # 4: This is the Cattle Tyrant.
Again, thank you very much!
Antonio.

Re: Birds (my first thread with them)
I know what you mean about skittish. And I totally agree with Jeeperman, you need to get level with them. I've heard people suggest a bird table disguised with branches helps. I think you just have to let them get used to you being around with a camera, which can take some patience. I think no2 is a great shot. The focus on the head, eyes and beak is great and captures the cheeky nature of the sparrow. Look forward to seeing more.

Re: Birds (my first thread with them)
Clive,
Many thanks for your advice and words of encouragement. As can you see, all photos were taken with a focal lenght off 1000mm (FFE) to mantain the greatest possible distance from the birds and avoid to scare them.
However, they are very skittish and flee if they feel threatened.
But I won't give up and I will insist until getting good pictures.
Antonio.
