This is Something I really like --C&C always-attempt at Portraiture

This was my first attempt at taking someone's portrait after joining CIC. Of course, I had to play with it. I think the outcome was better than the original --the background was really bad. I REALLY like this composition. It's probably one of the few I've posted that I am really proud of. Do you think it works?

    Thanks for viewing . . .

Gretchen..the mere fact that it pleases you so much means that it works and you have achieved something that satisfied your creative urge.

It is very zany and won't be to everyone's taste...that matters not a jot!

Different is always a good thing and you are finding your own style...keep it up.

    Hi Gretchen!

I’m not anywhere near qualified enough to comment on your treatment of this portrait.

I was unable to see the EXIF I would ask about.

So may I ask at what focal length you shot this?

Zany and very creative... Like caviar, I like it but, would not want a steady diet of it.

Terry, the data from the original is: ISO 125, EXP 1/64, f-stop 3.5, focal length 4.2, spot metering. Remember, I'm using a Sony Cybershot, so my options are few. I says I had it on "manual" mode,--I don't remember any of it. The background of the original is almost completely dark.

Thanks everyone. The composition fits the subject. I think because the original had such a dark background, I had to figure-out how to treat it--and came up with this. I used the flash and it only illuminated her face. We were in a room that was set-up to be a gallery, with natural light and artificial light and white walls.

Very creative! The one thing that bothers me is that the lips appear on the right rear portrait but not on the left rear portrait. If you were intentionally using an asymmetric approach, consider that a compliment.

Mike, thanks! Yes, I was more concerned about the eyes being even. I HATE exact symmetry. Just too unnatural --actually puts me in a bad mood believe it or not. Well, unless one is creating repeatable patterns --but that is a different thing all together . . .
