    The water got the hand that was holding the camera wet; anyone have a brand of waterproof housings they particularly like for light surf / beach duty?

    A zip lockable freezer bag with hole cut for the lens might be a cheaper alternative

    A rubber band around the lens and bag and you've got a cheap and cheerful solution. Quite possibly a slippery solution if the bag gets wet. I'd practice somewhere safer than the surf first up!
