Those magnificent men and their flying machines

I'll have to big out the colour versions from my external hard drive, but here are a few from the Red Bull X-Fighters.

Slightly challenging shooting with the sandy atmosphere, massive spot lights following the riders, and the motion of course with riders suddenly arriving in front of you and from the ground not being able to tell what direction they were coming from! Luckily a rented 70-200 was nice and zippy to focus

    Those shots are perfect Phil.

They are frozen but still with motion in the wheels.
The exposure is great, lots of details on the main subject and still a wonderful pattern for background that enhance the photo without distracting.
You have used ISO 2000?? and still no noise at all.

The only thing I would have done is burn or clone out the lights from the background buildings.

    Thanks Miltos

It was a fun shoot - I'm comfortable shooting up to ISO6400 at a push - not bad for a old low megapixel camera, eh?

    Phil,
All superb but I just keep going back to #3- His limbs are just as perfectly balanced as though he was following your instructions on take after take. #1 is a very close 2nd for me. I have only recently started pushing up my ISO, routinely to about 1600 and it gives so much more latitude- nothing that a little NR software cant handle with ease. Well done

Great shots Phil! I simply cannot imagine doing anything like that on a motorcycle...
