| Re: Show us your Photo Blog Looks distinctly amateur compared to most here, but here's where my pics currently go; http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/dhumphries1 It does the job until I get something better; any suggestions of good or bad examples? Comments and critiques on photos welcome, Dave |

| Re: Show us your Photo Blog I recently came across Photium. Has anyone used it? www.photium.com Seems to be quite quick uploads compared to others I have used. I am still experimenting before committing to a new site, so any other suggestions outside those already mentioned would be welcome. |

| Re: Show us your Photo Blog OK, here were my first impressions; - Photium looks impressive from the link above, and seems to offer the sort of things I'd be looking for too - then I looked at a few different 'customer sites', they all have they're own URLs and are not sub-domains, like my Picasa link in separate post above. Many of the templates used provided album pages of reasonably sized set of captioned thumnails. Clicking in, to step through photos one at a time, reveals images that are left and right click protected, and many also have an additional, obtrusive banner copyright spoiler right across the image. Personally, I prefer the web galleries that allow one to advance to the next photo by simply clicking on the image itself, that way one doesn't have to be too accurate with mouse placement. Several websites provided a reasonably static ">>" link to next shot, which stayed put whatever the orientation of the image, which is good. Sometimes the size of the photo, banner and links conspired to not allow me to see the whole image. One site used a 'Buy now' button at the top of some, but not all, of his pictures and this resulted in the >> links jumping up and down between shots - very unfortunate. The images are not huge in most peoples albums. Few take advantage of the slideshow feature, and while this isn't perfect, I've seen worse - maybe not well used because it's only available in the std and advanced price options. On price, they look quite attractive, but I don't know the market, they just look affordable. It looks like all site visitors can buy are printed, mailed pictures, rather than high quality downloads direct from the site. I note from FAQ one has to arrange a printing service, no idea how difficult that is or how they get paid, or DIY if you've got a suitable dye-sublimation style printer. On the whole, definitely looks worth taking the free trial. |

http://www.pbase.com/crisscross costs £12/year, but years are stretched until you fill up your 500MB allowance I find it quite nice to be able to home in on and communicate with a number of like minded photographers including professionals who also sell off of the site and search possibilities - and the occasional magazine features some really good operations like Cambridge in Colour for more specialised needs ![]() | |
