Beams and Beams (Ely Cathedral 2012)
So this is where we come for commentary is it?
Alrighty.
This was a photo I took earlier this year, its not perfect but I was satisfied I'd done a good job. I prefer my HDR to have dark blacks and good contrast but tend towards more painterly effects and try to make the richness it produces more subtle than obvious. Could it be improved though? Be honest.
Camera Canon EOS 450D
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture f/6.3
Focal Length 18 mm
ISO Speed 1600

Re: Beams and Beams (Ely Cathedral 2012)
Hi, Richard
The combination of wood and masonry is perfect subject for the HDR technique. I have a tendency toward a little more contrast (if you can keep the stone detail on the right), but that is my own quirk-local contrast enhancement might give the textures a little more pop without losing the shadow detail. Would like to see the window edges on the left a true vertical. Nice shot overall

Re: Beams and Beams (Ely Cathedral 2012)
Yes the window ledge being lopped off at the top was one of those compositional errors I look back now and think "one step to the right."
As it was I was on a tour surrounded a gaggle of about 30 other people so I think all things being equal I got it about as well as I could being that you don't see anyone in the shot and the walkway was fairly narrow.
but you're right - the full vertical line would have been preferred.

Richard, a delight to see the proper merging of exposures utilizing HDR, very well done.

Thanks Redrew.
This was another one from the same shoot - however this one contains a major error:

I did take one other photo from inside the Cathedral at Ely.This one was all about the silhouette, the shadows and the play of the light.
See what you think....
