    Green Anole

    Canon 50D, Canon 600mm f4, 1/2000 @ f4 Green Anole

While photographing birds from the deck of friends' ranch house in East Texas my wife pointed out this little lizard (about 4 inches long) on a potted plant. I recognized it as a tropical Anole and was surprised finding it in Texas. Though not indigenous to the US they have become quite common in the Southern US brought in on plants imported from Central and South America. The red "dewlap" is to attract females and warn males.

While I don't find the dewlap in the least attractive, I do find the photo extremely so!

Gretchen, it is a red dewlap which only a lady Anole would find attractive, but I am glad you enjoyed the image otherwise.
