My first Black & White attempts!

Dear fellows... tried to make some B&W pictures. Not sure if you will like them, but just decided to share, so I appreciate any feedback on them.

They look OK to me, but I wonder if slightly brightening the midtones in the first one would make the sea and boats a little clearer.

The worry is that this might ruin the sky so I would probably work with an adjustment layer and mask which could be edited to overcome any problems.

Of this set it is the 3rd one (of the train) that really holds my attention. I find it holds my attention. Why?

I like to low contrast approach taken to the B & W conversion. That approach makes it, for me, a calm scene. I get the feeling that no-one is in too much a of a hurry, that this is a local commuter train that slowly makes it way from the rural areas into the city and that people don't get too agitated or stressed when it runs slow.

Now, all of that may be is totally wrong, but that is the 'story' I read in this image. And I like it.

And although it is a low contrast image, you have achieved good, rich tones in it.

Hello Donald, thank you very much for taking your time viewing and commenting. And you were quite right about people not being in a hurry or stressed. This is a really calm and peaceful place (it is the train that goes up the "Corcovado" mount, taking tourists to Christ, the redeemer statue, in Rio. Kindest regards...

In that case your image is all the more successful. You have, in my view, perfectly captured the mood of the place. That is a an excellent achievement.
