It's a former coke oven plant. Today it is a museum.

Oh yes, I spent lots of days there. The whole complex is much bigger than that small overview. An old coal mine is also near by.
Take a look: Museum "Zollverein" Map I took the picture beetween markers C84 to C85 looking east.

I thought the first image was of things that were at most 24" high. Clearly, I was wrong!
