Wonderful action. Full of energy and movement.

I wondered if you were operating with whatever lens you're using fully open? It would strengthen them even further, perhaps, of you were able to throw the background a bit more out of focus.

Have to agree with Donald about the background, a good set of sport pictures show the intense nature of this sport.

Joanne, I always like your sports pictures. You do a great job capturing the emotion and energy.

I agree that a more blurred background might improve the images somewhat but, you would need a fairly wide aperture to capure the image that way.

If you wanted, you might be able to increase the BG blur in post production. However, selecting the playes might be difficult.

I like these a lot. The images show the players faces which give you a sense of the energy and emotion that goes into sport. Agree with the others about a blurred background it would give the total focus on the players.

    Cheers for now

Thank you all for your comments, as always constructive and encouraging. I understand what you are saying and a blurred background would make the images far more intense and wouldn't be so distracting. I have to admit that this game is so fast I am engrossed in trying to read the play to get a good action shot the last thing on my mind is what the background will be like. I'm sure that with more experience I can do both at the same time. I use the Canon 100-400mm L USM lens but find that it performs very well in very bright conditions but struggles in poor light - especially floodlights. I could have done with the £7000 Canon Lens the guy from Reuters had along with his digital kit that he checked the screen each shot he took.....Mmmmmm serious lens envy
