    A cat under the Acropolis

Sometimes I find the results of the fill flash technique fascinating.

When I saw this cat I knew that being in the shadow and the background in the greek summer sun I would have problem with the exposure. I just poped the build in flash (the cat was disturbed so I had no time to set my 430ex II) and the cat just pops outs! No severe PP editing.

I like this shot! It shows people what you can do with the built-in flash for fill light (even though it doesn't have HSS capability). It's a good looking cat and doesn't look like a stray. Its too clean and well fed.

However, it seems like more emphasis is on the cat if the sky is cropped out...

    Hi Miltos
    You obviously like cats !
Fill flash is a great tool. The problem is that it can sometimes make what was a scene with shadows and depth seem rather flat, especially when the flash is on camera. As you point out, the cat wasn't going to stick around for you to set up your strobe, so you did well to get the shot you did! I like the detail in the ledge the cat is sat on and the shallow dof works very well to bring focus to the subject.
    Nice shot

I would agree with Richard's assessment - by cropping out the sky it does put more attention on to the cat.

However, I do not see this as just a picture of a cat. I think this is an excellent travel picture of the city. I think it conveys a wonderful sense of the age and atmosphere of the place. And the cat, with its history in the ancient world, is a perfect symbol to have in the image.

A very good image, I think.
