I'm not really good at portraits but.....

I took this shot of a friend of my husband during yesterdays' Memorial Day Celebration.
I emailed a OOC copy to his wife - she likes the picture, but "can't print it out with my big tummy visible" .
So, I went a little out of my comfort zone - both as far as Portrait and cloning is concerned.
Tips for improving this edit greatly appreciated.

I think the cloning is still too visible - there's still a holo around his shirt!
I also tried B/W, but I haven't gotten to the point that I'm happy with it.

Well done Kris! That halo is hair from the part of his arm and foliage that was cloned - what software are you using for post production? ( That kind of work is pretty feature specific )

Great cloning job Kris! Most folks would never notice that small a halo (unless they were trained at the CiC Campus)!

If you haven't done so, creating a selection mask can help you control what happens at the separation between subject and background.

    PhotoShop CS5.
I masked the selection that needed to be cloned out, and did the cloning on a separate layer.

Try selecting him using quick selection tool with auto-enhance on. then click refine edge and turn on Smart Radius. Then move the arrow just about to somewhere 20 or what you find fitting. I'll try this myself and post the results. I will notify you if i fail xD

I don't know if this is allright or any different at all. but i think that the halo is invisible now. I also fixed the tone. You can lower down the brightness if you want to by yourself.

Thank you for the edit - much better than I could..
Still got a lot to learn - refine edge in PS just never comes out right for me. I must be doing something wrong there.
