    In the rain

    Back home now.

These were taken during one of the "really big" thunder/rain storm we had in HK throughout my stay there. There never was really a good day as such. Luckily there was a pavilion to shelter under for the shots but gear protection was a real hassle.

    Hope you like them.

    Thanks for looking.

Well worth the effort Bobo. The bit of rain reall adds to the mood. Well done series here but that first one is the cream of the crop. Very nice.

lovely images Bobo! Especially the first image. The details on it are awesome yet still preserved the softness of a flower.

Beautifully done! A great inspiration for making the best of any situation. I like everything about the first one- composition, color, lighting, and the raindrops in the background. I like the last one because it's unusual and intriguing. I like the black space in it and the shapes of the leaves and flower. Well done.

    Thanks Paul, Chriss, Barbara.

    Appreciate all the kind comments.

Have been wondering about #6 though. Would it be better to clone out the leaf behind the flower? I did like the 2 eye like shadows sort of looking at the flower but...

As others have said, all are very nice, but to me the first one stands out. The flower is so sharp front to back, that it looks like it could have been stacked. And the rain streaks in the left space add just the right touch.

Clone everything but the flower. I would be interested how it would look by itself lit up with a black background. I think the end result will be beautiful.

    Re: In the rain

    Hi Bobo,

Great series, most subtley processed to retain the 'feel' of the subdued lighting in the rain.

Well, not that I was expecting anything less

I really cannot decide between #1, #2 (perhaps without the blue flower so near the corner?) and #3.
On balance, for me #3 wins for the simpler compositional elements that make it up.

    Cheers,

1,4,and 6 are definitely my favorites. The water droplets in #4 really set it off.

Very nicely captured. #3 is most appealing. But I like the effect of the 'diagonal' in #1 which seems to draw together the leaf and the flower into a contiguous unit.

Nothing hugely constructive to add. Instead I just want to acknowledge excellence and pass on my compliments.

I think the most useful thing aspiring photographers and those of us who know how much we've still got to learn could do, is just study these closely. Particularly, look at them in terms of composition and assess how all the various bits that make up the image are put togther in the frame. You'll maybe feel, like I do, that a huge strength of each is the sense of 'balance' that exists in the image.

    Re: In the rain

very nice images. It's hard to pick, but I find the composition of #1 and #4 the most appealing. I do a lot of flower shots, and I am going to study these for the composition.

Thanks to everyone for their kind and useful comments.

What we see here is what I have learned from here. Just hoping now that I can maintain a certain degree of consistency - something that comes really hard for me.
