The Hills of Angus from St Andrews

This is where a 400mm lens (mounted onto a Canon 40D) comes into its own for landscapes! Well I think so.

I got a whole day to myself today to go out with bag and tripod. So, got on the move at 5:30am. And I did some colour along with the usual B & W.

I'm always particularly keen to hear what people think of my colour stuff. I don't think this is spectacular. I think it's 'nice'. Which is probably saying it's okay, but .......! I think the composition is okay. I wanted to keep the early morning feel (7:50am), so didn't pull in the black & white points too far.

This is taken standing pretty close to the first tee of the Old Course at St Andrews, the home of golf. The hills are about 30 - 35 miles away in the county of Angus.

    Excellent composition as always Donald.

Just wondering what would be the results is you boost the colours, particularly the green fiends in the far.

I really like it, the layer upon layer from crashing waves to snow topped mountain with subtle changes in tone as you go.

Maybe because you feel happier working in black and white this feels to you that it lacks impact but it doesn't and really is a super shot.

...and what a fun horizon to get straight!

Take a look at this link I was looking at http://www.lonestardigital.com/photoshop_quicktips.htm from inside this CIC site regarding a bit of haze removal. It may punch up the colors and have an effect you like. You sure covered a lot of landscape in this shot.

Thank you for your helpful comments, folks.

Sharon - Watch out for Crail Harbour coming along just as soon as I get the chance to process them!
